New Jersey Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
The LIHEAP application period in New Jersey runs from October 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026 and funds are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
New Jersey LIHEAP is designed to help low-income families and individuals meet their home heating and medically necessary cooling costs.
Through the DCA, New Jersey also administers or supports several additional energy assistance programs that provide ongoing help with utility costs:
- Universal Service Fund (USF): Provides monthly credits for electricity and natural gas bills.
- Lifeline: Offers annual benefits to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE): Provides grants to avoid disconnection or restore service.

- be responsible for home heating or cooling costs, either directly or included in the rent; and
- have gross income not exceeding 60% of the State Median Income (SMI), which is about $6,732 per month for a family of three.
