Applications for NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) are currently open for the 2025—2026 academic year and must be submitted by June 30, 2026.
The New York State Tuition Assistance Program (NYS TAP) is a need-based grant that helps eligible New York residents pay for undergraduate tuition at approved in-state colleges.
TAP is available for students attending SUNY, CUNY and not-for-profit independent degree-granting colleges in New York State (NYS).
Depending on the academic year, annual TAP awards range from $1,000 to $5,665 per year. The exact amount depends on household income, college type, and enrollment status.

Who is eligible for NYS TAP?
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- Must be a resident of New York State
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Must be classified as an undergraduate student
- Be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits per semester) at an approved postsecondary institution in New York State
- Be charged at least $200 tuition per academic year
- Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA
- Must meet TAP income eligibility limit
TAP is also available to part-time students taking as few as 3 credits per semester, provided they meet the same income requirements.
What is the income limit for NYS TAP?
Beginning with the 2024–25 academic year, the NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) expanded its eligibility . Current income limits are based on New York State Net Taxable Income (NTI) and are as follows:

How do I apply for NYS TAP?
