New Jersey SNAP

New Jersey SNAP — formerly known as Food Stamps, enables eligible low-income individuals and families to receive cash benefits to help pay for food.

NJ SNAP is not an entitlement. NJ’s law requires all SNAP recipients to work or participate in a work program for at least 20 hours per week, unless otherwise exempt.

In addition, ABAWD time limits apply to all able-bodied SNAP recipients ages 18—50 without dependents, limiting benefits to 3 months during a 36-month period. 1
