DC Tuition Assistance Grant

DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) is a need-based grant that allows college-bound D.C. residents to attend any public institution in the country as if they are a resident of the school’s state.

DCTAG provides up to $10,000 per academic year (or $5,000 per semester) toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public four-year colleges and universities anywhere the country. 1

And up to $2,500 per academic year (or $1,250 per semester) in any private not-for-profit college or university in the DC metro area.

Who is eligible for DCTAG?

  1. Must be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  2. Must be a resident of District of Columbia at least 12 months prior
  3. Must not be older than 26 years old
  4. Have a high school diploma or GED
  5. Must be enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student
  6. Must meet DCTAG maximum income thresholds 2

What is the income limit for DCTAG?

Depending on the year in which a student started college, DCTAG is available to undergraduates from a family with a taxable annual income at or below the specified income threshold. 2

How do I apply for DCTAG?

To be considered for DCTAG, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the DC OneApp Online Application .

The OneApp opens on Feb. 1 each year and all supporting documents must be submitted in person no later than June 30 each year.
