Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG)

The program is no longer available  to students who did not receive a paid award in academic year 2023–24 or earlier. It is scheduled to permanently end on September 30, 2029.

Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG) provides need-based financial aid to eligible residents attending eligible private, non-profit colleges and universities in Michigan.

Awards may be applied only to tuition and mandatory fees, up to a maximum of $3,000 per academic year, subject to available funding.

FAQ

How do I qualify for Michigan Tuition Grant?

  1. Be a Michigan resident and U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
  2. Have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent
  3. Be enrolled at least half-time as an undergraduate student at Michigan private or independent non-profit college or university
  4. Must not owe a repayment or be in default status with federal student loans
  5. Must have substantial financial need as determined by the FAFSA

How do I apply for Michigan Tuition Grant?

The Michigan Tuition Grant (MTG) is no longer available to new applicants starting in the 2024—25 academic year. For renewal or continuing eligibility, the FAFSA must be submitted by May 1 for the upcoming academic year.
