Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant

The Illinois MAP Grant is available from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) to Illinois residents who attend approved colleges in Illinois.

To be eligible, students must demonstrate financial aid, based on the information provided on the FAFSA. If deemed eligible, an estimated MAP grant will appear on your financial aid award letter from your college.

How do I qualify for Illinois MAP grant?

To be eligible, you must:

  1. be a resident of Illinois and U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  2. be an undergraduate student who has not earned a baccalaureate degree
  3. be enrolled for a minimum of three credit hours in a degree or certificate program at an approved Illinois college or university
  4. not exceeded the equivalent of 135 semester credit hours of MAP benefits paid
  5. demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA with a Student Aid Index (SAI) of less than $9,000

How much is the MAP grant in Illinois?

Award amounts may vary for each academic year with the maximum award not exceeding $8,400 per academic year, subject to fund availability. Students enrolled in less than 15 credits per term will receive a pro-rated MAP grant.

How do I apply for Illinois MAP grant?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) serves as the application for the MAP Grant. Each student who reports Illinois as his/her state of legal residence automatically applies for MAP when completing the FAFSA annually.

As funding for the MAP grant is limited, students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as early as possible after October 1.
