Florida’s Food Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income Floridians of all ages afford nutritious food by providing monthly benefits at no cost to eligible households.

The program serves low-income families with children, seniors, people with disabilities, and working or unemployed individuals of all ages.

Unless exempt, work-eligible SNAP recipients are required to participate in the SNAP Employment and Training (E&T) program, known as CareerSource, which is operated by local workforce development boards across Florida. ¹

Who is eligible for SNAP in Florida?

Be a US Citizen or a lawful permanent resident
Show proof of identity
Meet income limits and other financial eligibility rules
ABAWDs must comply with special work requirements or be subject to a three-month time limit on SNAP receipt.

The monthly benefit amount for a family of three with no income in Florida is $785 but may vary based on factors such as household size, income, and allowable expenses.

The actual SNAP benefit amounts are based on a household’s net income with a general rule that an increase of $100 in net income results in a reduction of $30 in benefits. Use our SNAP calculator to estimate the amount of benefits you can expect to receive.

What is the income limit to qualify for food stamps in Florida?

Most households must pass a gross income limit less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty level, which is about $4,442 a month for a family of three.

Effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. Gross income limit applies to most households, except when at least one member is age 60 or older or receives disability income; in these cases, only the net income test applies.

How do I apply for food stamps in Florida?

If you wish to apply for food assistance, call the Department of Children and Families (DCF) at (866)-762-2237 to find the SNAP office nearest you.

You may also apply online through ACCESS Florida for faster processing. Once your application is filed, you will be contacted for an eligibility interview, usually within 5 days.

What documents are needed for SNAP benefits in Florida?

When you apply for SNAP, you may be asked to provide the following documents:

A valid photo ID
A valid Social Security Number
Proof of residency (where you live)
Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status
Proof of earned and unearned income for each household member

What is the SUNCAP program?

SUNCAP Program is a special, simplified Food Assistance Program for SSI recipients.² No additional application, paperwork, or interviews are required.

If you already receive food assistance benefits in the regular Food Assistance Program, you may be automatically put in the SUNCAP Program when you become SSI eligible.
