Wisconsin Tuition Promise

The Wisconsin Tuition Promise provides last-dollar financial assistance to eligible Wisconsin residents from low-to-moderate income families.

It applies to all public universities in the University of Wisconsin System except for UW-Madison, which offers its own program called Bucky’s Tuition Promise  1

As a last-dollar program, it covers the remaining gap for tuition and fees after federal and state grants, scholarships, and other gift aid have been applied.

Eligible students must be Wisconsin residents, a new first-time or transfer students, with a family income (AGI) of $55,000 or less, as reported on the FAFSA.

Who is eligible for the Wisconsin Tuition Promise?

To qualify, a student must:

  1. Be a Wisconsin resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  2. Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  3. Be a first-time freshman or a first-time transfer student seeking their first associate or bachelor’s degree.
  4. Be admitted and enrolled at least half-time at a participating UW System campus
  5. Have a family income (AGI) generally at or below $55,000, based on the FAFSA

How do I apply for Wisconsin Tuition Promise?

There is no separate application for the Wisconsin Tuition Promise. Eligible students are automatically awarded if they meet the eligibility requirements.

To be considered:

  1. Submit the FAFSA each year.
  2. List your University of Wisconsin campus on your FAFSA.
  3. Complete any requested financial aid verification steps.
