SNAP primarily serves children, older adults, people with disabilities, and low-income working or unemployed households that may struggle to afford enough food.

Able-bodied SNAP recipients ages 18—64 without dependents are subject to a three-month limit on benefits within a 36-month period unless they meet the work requirement of at least 80 hours per month. ¹
