Rhode Island SNAP

Rhode Island SNAP helps eligible individuals and families afford food and maintain a healthier diet by providing monthly food assistance benefits.

The program serves low-income families with children, older adults, people with disabilities, and working or unemployed people of all ages.

In Rhode Island, SNAP has two income levels:

  1. Households without an older adult (age 60 or older) or someone with a disability may qualify if their income is less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
  2. Households with a member who is elderly or disabled may qualify if their income is less than 200% of the FPL.

Under the new SNAP rules, all able-bodied SNAP recipients ages 18–64 without dependents are required to meet specific work requirements to continue receiving benefits beyond three months. 1
