South Dakota TANF

South Dakota TANF is a temporary public assistance program for low-income families with a dependent child or children under the age of 18.

The primary focus of the program is to help families help themselves “move from welfare to work” by

  2. Encouraging self-sufficiency through work

As a condition of eligibility, South Dakota requires all able-bodied TANF participants to work in allowable work activities a minimum of 30 hours each week or 20 hours per week if you have a child under age 6.
