Connecticut Temporary Family Assistance (TFA)
Effective April 1, 2024, the Jobs First time limit will increase to 36 months, during which time a participant must work to obtain and retain employment.
Temporary Family Assistance Program (TFA) provides monthly cash and employment assistance to eligible families throughout Connecticut to support basic needs such as food, shelter and clothing.
Most families with children in Connecticut are eligible for only 36 months of cash benefits 1 and are required to participate in Jobs First Employment Services activities, coordinated by the Department of Labor.
Under Jobs First, recipients who get a job are allowed to keep all earnings up to the federal poverty level as well as their cash assistance benefit for the remainder of the 21 months.
