Nebraska Medicaid
According to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, beginning May 1, 2026, adults ages 19—64 in the Medicaid expansion group must work, volunteer, attend school or take part in an approved work program for at least 80 hours per month, unless they are exempt.1 Nebraska joins Georgia as one of the only states to implement Medicaid work requirements. 2
Nebraska Medicaid provides free or low-cost health care coverage to eligible low-income residents, including children, pregnant women, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Effective October 1, 2021, Nebraska Medicaid transitioned from a tiered system to a unified system, offering one comprehensive benefit package for all adult Medicaid expansion members.
Coverage is delivered through private health plans. When you enroll, you must choose one of three managed care organizations:
- Nebraska Total Care
- UnitedHealthcare Community Plan
- Molina Healthcare
