Broward County LIHEAP opens with new income limits
Published on November 1, 2026
Broward County is offering energy bill assistance through the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), with annual income limits effective from October 1, 2026. The limits range from $33,733 for a one-person household to $85,632 for a household of six, and extend up to nine individuals. The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funded in Broward by the State of Florida, and managed by the county’s Family Success Administration Division, according to cubaheadlines.com. 1
Eligibility depends on household size and family income. Non-U.S. citizens in the household may apply with proof of permanent residency or other qualifying foreign status documentation. Applicants must submit a government-issued photo ID, proof of citizenship or eligible immigration status for all household members, Social Security numbers, a current Florida Power & Light (FPL) bill, and proof of income from the past 30 days. Bank statements and W-2 forms are not accepted as income verification. Households receiving Section 8 or public housing assistance must also attach a lease agreement or form 50058/50059 showing utility allowance data.
Applications are accepted exclusively online. Processing may take up to 15 business days, and applicants should continue paying their bill or arrange a payment plan with FPL to avoid disconnection. Approved benefits are credited directly to the electric company.
