Delaware Energy Assistance Program (DEAP)

Delaware Energy Assistance Program (DEAP) provides one-time assistance to income eligible households to help them meet their home energy needs.

DEAP benefit is based on the household’s income, size, and type of fuel. Income eligibility is defined as 200% of the federal poverty level — about $4,143 a month for a family of three to qualify.

DEAP, also known as LIHEAP, offers the following supports to eligible households:

Fuel Assistance Program #

The Fuel Assistance Program provides home heating assistance for low income families who need help paying winter energy bills. DEAP does not pay for all heating costs. Eligible households, both homeowners and renters, receive one annual benefit of up to $1,926 per household.

Energy Crisis Intervention Program #

The Energy Crisis Intervention Program is available to eligible households in an emergency situation — shutoff notice, out of fuel, no money to pay for fuel. This supplemental benefit can be in addition to the regular fuel assistance benefit.

Summer Cooling Assistance Program #

The Summer Cooling Assistance Program helps low-income families by paying a portion of summer electric bills. Eligible households receive one annual benefit. The program operates from early May through August 31 if funds are available.

Households eligible for DEAP may also qualify for home weatherization improvements through Delaware's Weatherization Assistance Program, also administered by Catholic Charities, Inc. WAP operates year round with a waiting list.
